Metocean Design Basis (MDB)
A metocean design basis is the combined information from detailed analyzes of meteorological and oceanographic variables. The report is the basis for design and planning of operations on offshore and land based installations. Examples of data that are subject to statistical analyzes in a metocean design basis are wind, wave, current, temperature and salinity data. In addition, ocean models are used to complement the in situ observations.

Weather Window/Operational Analysis
Implementation of marine operations often requires that a number of conditions concerning the weather and sea state are fulfilled, e.g. maximum limits for wave height, wind speed. A weather window is the time interval when operations can be performed. Unfortunately, the relevant parameters are rapidly varying in time and the weather window is usually difficult to predict. This is mainly because project planning occurs over time scales where the weather forecasts no longer can be relied upon. Nevertheless, it is highly desirable to increase the probability of successful execution prior to the initiation of the operations. This can be obtained by utilizing complex statistic programs.
Polytec has the competence and programs to offer an operational analysis for marine operations restricted to any meteorological and oceanographic parameter. The operational analysis provides monthly statistics based on the restriction level of the required parameters. When a marine operation are to be executed, thorough preparations is necessary, and the statistics presented from an operational analysis may be the crucial information.
